Seated in the Heavenlies

Some things don’t make sense to me while reading the Bible. Some phrases are pregnant with invitation. If we give time and patience to these phrases along with endurance they give birth to revelation and we step into the life of a higher calling. For example, the unsaved people in the New Testament would hear about believing in Jesus in order to have eternal life; This was the greatest invitations pregnant with many other benefits. Because of these pregnant ideas we’re invited to explore more. There is danger in exploring these, but there is even more danger in NOT exploring them.

I’ve come to discover for myself one of the greatest invitations in the Bible. Access to the Father. What does this mean though? First of all I want to start in John 3:13.

“No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is the Son of Man who is in heaven.” -Jesus

Did you catch that? “..who is in heaven.”!?! Jesus was saying that while He was on earth He was also in heaven! Jesus was 100% God but He was also 100% man! Jesus came down and took on the frailty and flesh of man but could still see into heaven and be in heaven here on earth! It says so in the word! Let’s develop this idea that’s SO pregnant with invitation!

Here’s a well-known verse that might have a different meaning to you after today:

“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loves us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.” [Ephesians 2:4-6]

When Christ died we were put to death (spiritually) and raised up along with Him and were seated with Him in the Heavenly places! But obviously we’re still here on Earth physically. Do you know that we have two parts to who we are though? Flesh and mind. Body and soul. Physical and spiritual. Don’t believe me? It’s everywhere in scripture! Here’s a few verses: Romans 7:21-25, 1 Corinthians 2:10-12, Ephesians 4:24, Ephesians 4:4. These are all about the different parts we have: Spirit and flesh. We hear all over the New Testament how people were “in the spirit” and were taken somewhere or something happened. John had this happen several times and he made it seem VERY normal! Check this out!

“I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s Day..” [Rev. 1:10]

And again..

“Immediately I was in the Spirit..” [Rev. 4:2]

And not only to John but Philip!

“..the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more..” [Acts 8:39]

Beloved, there is a dimension in we are not living! We’ve been setting our eyes on the things of the earth instead of living in the realm in which we will be for eternity! Paul says it the best in his letter to the Colossians:

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” [Colossians 3:1-3]

Beloved, I don’t know about you, but I refuse to believe that the people 2000 years ago had MORE access to God and that God doesn’t desire to reveal and let us experience the same things that they did. I think Paul makes it pretty clear that we ALL have this privilege in his letter to the Ephesians:

“For through Him (Jesus) we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.” [Ephesians 2:18]

And likewise..

“But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” [1 Corinthians 6:17]

Do we really want to believe that God only wanted to encounter people in the Bible and not us today? No! It says our lives are HIDDEN in Christ for a reason. With God, things aren’t hidden so that we can’t find them, things are hidden so that we will search them out! When we were saved we received access to the Father not only in prayer, but we became citizens in heaven! God wants to open our eyes to the spiritual realm and reveal things to us that we could never imagine possible!

“And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness, But if the Spirit of Him who raise Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” [Romans 8:10-11]

Beloved, This is one of the greatest invitations in history! We are called into a life in the realm of the spirit! This world is only a reflection of the REAL world- Heaven! Beloved, Chase the presence of God. Chase DEEP intimacy with the Father. We were created for the purpose of intimacy! Do you really want to keep believing that the one who created you and sent His son for you doesn’t want to be WITH you and show you the marvelous things He has for you?

“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to a innumerable company of angels.” [Hebrews 12:22]

If we really believe and apply the famous verse of “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8), is it really hard to believe that God wants to do the same things today that He did in the older days. Not only do I believe that He’ll do the same things, but GREATER things! We not only have God’s desire to show us Himself, but the Holy Spirit partnering with us to search the depths of God and take us into depths and heights we never knew imaginable!
